Two northern Nevada architectural projects have been honored in the American Institute of Architects Nevada's 2010 Excellence in Design Awards program.

Kendyl Depoali Middle School in Reno, designed by Van Woert Bigotti Architects of Reno, is one of two recipients of a Citation Award for Architecture. It's a 198,000-square-foot building with an energy-saving design.

Structural reconstruction of St. Mary's in the Mountains Catholic Church in Virginia City, Mercedes de la Garza Architect Studio of Reno, won an AIA Merit Award. The award noted the collaborative efforts of clients, owners, contractors and architects in reconstruction of the church built in 1868.
