Taxable sales in Washoe County during September were up 2.5 percent from year-earlier figures, the Nevada Department of Taxation said last week.
Sales in Carson City were up 11 percent, while sales in Douglas County were down 2.2 percent. Sales in Elko County were nearly 25 percent ahead of last year's figures.
Auto sales in Washoe were up nearly 10 percent over September 2009 figures. Vehicles sales in Carson City were up more than 33 percent from a year earlier.
Furniture sales in the Reno-Sparks area were up nearly 7 percent, and department stores posted a 3 percent increase.
