Independent Distributors Cooperative-USA, a cooperative that serves industrial bearing and power transmission distributors, will open a distribution center in Reno.
The 20,400-square-foot center at 640 Maestro Drive is projected for opening in January. It will employ four people initially.
Jack Bailey, president and chief executive officer of IDC-USA, said the cooperative headquartered in Indianapolis began looking for potential locations in the West in 2008 as it seeks to reduce shipping times to customers west of Denver.
He said IDC-USA was drawn to Reno because Nevada levies neither a state income tax nor an inventory tax, and Reno is a good location to serve California markets.
"It's like being in California without being in California," he says. An additional benefit: Executives liked the friendliness and convenience of doing business in Reno.
IDC-USA is a member-owned purchasing, marketing, and selling cooperative. It represents about 200 independent distribution locations and distributes products from about 65 suppliers to the bearing and power-transmission industry.
Mike McCabe, a senior vice president with Colliers International, represented IDC-USA in its real estate negotiations with Trainor and Associates, owner of the building. Trainor was represented by Tony Ricco.
