(AP) - State workers would reap the benefit of money saving ideas under a bill that received strong support from state lawmakers and the Sandoval administration.

SB286 is co-sponsored by Republican Sen. Dean Rhoads and Democratic Assemblywoman Debbie Smith.

It creates an incentive program that would give employees who come up with ideas to save the state money a percentage of the savings. The rest would go to their agency and the general fund.

Rhoads has proposed similar legislation in past sessions without success. Backers and members of the Senate Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections said Tuesday they hope this session will be different.

There was no opposition to the bill.

No action was taken by the committee.
