Swanson Health Products has opened a distribution center in Spanish Springs that employs 18.
The company headquartered in Fargo, N.D., will serve customers on the West Coast and Southwest from the new center.
Swanson Health Products sells vitamins, dietary supplements, organic foods and eco-friendly cleaning products through its Web site and catalogs.
Terry Kraft, director of operations for the company, said the Spanish Springs location was selected because it allows one- or two-day delivery times to customers in the West.
The company also found "very competitive" terms on its lease of 52,500 square feet at 46 Isidor Court in the Spanish Springs Business Center and found that the area's labor force meets its operational needs, Kraft said.
The company was represented by the CB Richard Ellis industrial team in its lease negotiations.
Swanson Health Products also evaluated locations in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. Along with its headquarters location, the company operates an East Coast distribution center at Harrisburg, Pa.
Founded in 1969, the company positions itself as low-cost provider of quality natural health products.
Kraft said the improved shipping times from the northern Nevada facility help the company meet another of its goals, constant improvement of its customers' experience with Swanson Health Products.
