LOS ANGELES (AP) - Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday that ended their five-game skid.
Kemp homered to center field on the first pitch he saw from Ryan Franklin (0-2). Andre Ethier led off with a double off Trever Miller, extending his major league-leading hitting streak to 14 games.
Jonathan Broxton (1-0) got the win despite giving up a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth by David Freese.
The victory prevented the Cardinals from earning their first four-game sweep in Los Angeles since 1968.
Diamondbacks 6, Giants 5, 12 innings
PHOENIX (AP) - Stephen Drew drove in Justin Upton with one out in the 12th inning, and Arizona rallied to beat San Francisco.
Giants reliever Dan Runzler had allowed only one base runner over 2 1-3 innings before walking Upton and Chris Young with one out in the 12th. Javier Lopez came on for Runzler (1-2) and gave up Drew's grounder into the right-field hole on his third pitch.
Josh Collmenter (1-0) pitched two perfect innings in his major league debut for the win, as the Diamondbacks snapped a four-game losing streak.
Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning and Aubrey Huff also homered for the Giants, who had their four-game winning streak end.
Upton also singled and hit his team-leading fourth home run for the Diamondbacks.
Padres 8, Astros 6
HOUSTON (AP) - Will Venable hit a two-run single in a four-run eighth inning and San Diego rallied for a victory.
Heath Bell got his 38th consecutive save the hard way. He loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and then got the last two batters on a strikeout and groundout.
Trailing 6-4 at the start of the eighth, the Padres got one run on Jason Bartlett's one-out RBI single. Pinch-hitter Brad Hawpe walked to load the bases prior then Venable singled to right field for the go-ahead hit off Mark Melancon (1-1).
Ernesto Friero (1-1) pitched 1 2-3 innings for the victory.
Pirates 7, Reds 6
CINCINNATI (AP) - Andrew McCutchen opened the game with a homer against slow-starting Edinson Volquez, then singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, rallying Pittsburgh to a win over the Reds.
McCutchen and Jose Tabata started the game with back-to-back homers - only the third time that's happened in Pirates history. McCutchen singled off Logan Ondrusek (2-1) for the winning run.
Closer Joel Hanrahan came on with two aboard in the eighth and got Scott Rolen to line into a double play, started by shortstop Ronny Cedeno's diving catch. The Reds then loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Hanrahan got Drew Stubbs to fly out, clinching his fifth save in five chances.
Chris Resop (1-0) escaped yet another Reds threat in the seventh, helping the Pirates win for only the second time in their last seven games.
Rockies 9, Cubs 5
DENVER (AP) - Dexter Fowler hit a two-out, two-run double to ignite a four-run eighth inning and Colorado won for the eighth time in nine games.
Marcos Mateo (0-1) gave up a leadoff single to Ryan Spilborghs to open the eighth. The Rockies snet 10 batters to the plate in the inning.
Rafael Betancourt (1-0), the fourth of five Rockies pitchers, entered in the eighth and picked up the win with two-thirds innings of hitless relief.
Nationals 8, Brewers 4, 1st game; Nationals 5, Brewers 1, 2nd game.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Danny Espinosa followed up a three-run homer in the opening game with a bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning of the second that helped the Washington Nationals to a doubleheader sweep over Milwaukee.
In the opener, Ivan Rodriguez also hit three-run homer and Jason Marquis pitched into the eighth inning.
Livan Hernandez (2-1) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings. Kameron Loe (1-1) came on in relief to start the seventh inning and gave up Espinosa's triple.
Marquis (1-0) allowed two runs and nine hits in seven-plus innings. Yovani Gallardo (1-1) yielded seven runs on 10 hits, striking out five without a walk. McGehee was 3 for 5 with an RBI for the Brewers.
Phillies 3, Marlins 2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Carlos Ruiz hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning after an error by the Marlins defense.
Ryan Howard began the eighth by reaching on an error by left-fielder Logan Morrison. Ben Francisco followed with a single off Ryan Webb (0-2), and Raul Ibanez put runners on the corners with a groundout. Ruiz followed with a soft fly to center.
Ryan Madson (1-0) tossed a scoreless eighth after taking over for Cole Hamels, and Jose Contreras survived a rocky ninth inning for his third save.
Mets 3, Braves 2
ATLANTA (AP) - New York's new No. 2 hitter Josh Thole had two run-scoring singles, Dillon Gee came up from the minors to earn the win and the Mets ended their seven-game losing streak.
Gee (1-0) gave up five hits and a run in 5 2-3 innings to beat Tommy Hanson (1-3).
Atlanta's Jason Heyward hit a homer off Jason Isringhausen in the eighth.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his second save. Chipper Jones walked to lead off the ninth and was stranded on third when Rodriguez struck out pinch-hitter Brooks Conrad.
