Billy Cross, 58, beloved son, brother and best friend, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, outside of Winnemucca. Billy was born to Tom and Ardith Cross in Elko on Jan. 5, 1953.
Billy moved to Carson City with his family in 1965. He attended Carson High School where he enjoyed playing sports and spending time with his many friends. Growing up in Carson, Billy worked at Oxoby's Chevron and Artistic Fence. He graduated from Carson High School in 1971. He started his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1975. He retired from the railroad in 2008 and moved to Winnemucca.
Billy is survived by his mother Ardith Cross, brother Ernie Cross, sister and brother-in-law Sundee and Larry Dobson, sister Kelly Arnold all of Carson City; and his best friend Patti Carter and her daughter Jennifer of Winnemucca. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Brenda Phebus, T.J. Dobson, Chris Dobson, Jeff Dobson, Mike Arnold and several great nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father Tom and sister Nancy Jo.
Throughout Billy's life he loved the Nevada outdoors to hunt, fish and play golf. He was an avid fan of the 49ers and Nevada Wolf Pack athletics where he will be remembered as the section B "First Down" guy.
A private family service will be on Friday, April 22. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the home of Billy's mother.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Northeastern Nevada Museum, 1515 Idaho St., Elko, NV 89801, or a charity of your choice. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
