Society recognizes engineers, projects

John Welsh of Stantec Consulting has been recognized as outstanding civil engineer of the year by the Truckee Meadows Branch of The American Society of Civil Engineers.

Jon Del Santo of Construction Materials Engineers was recognized as young civil engineer of the year.

Civil engineering projects that were recognized by the society as the best in the region included:

* Restoration of the Truckee River below Derby Dam. Mitchell Blum of HDR, Inc. served as the consultant to the City of Reno on the project.

* The 4th Street Station developed by the Regional Transportation Commission. Parsons Brinkerhoff and CFA Inc. provided engineering consulting.

* The improvement of northbound Highway 395 by the Nevada Department of Transportation. Lance Hammons of PBS&J was consulting engineer on the project.

Entries were judged by members of the Southern Nevada Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
