Obituary: William (Bill) August Juchtzer

William (Bill) August Juchtzer passed away April 25, 2011, at the age of 88. He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Diamond Valley, Calif., to Arnold Wilhelm August Juchtzer and Charlotte Sophie Syll Juchtzer. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elva; son Gregory of Gardnerville; daughter Cindy of Liberty, Sask.; stepsons Edward Gill of Napa, Calif., and David Gill of Reno; stepdaughter Virginia (Ginger) Stodieck of Hillsboro, Ore.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother Edward Juchtzer of Carson City; and sister Zelma Simpson of Oroville, Calif.

He was a resident of Genoa for 66 years. He served on the town board, was a docent at the museum, a volunteer fireman and helped build the original fire house. He moved to Minden in 1989. He was a charter member of the Lions Club of Carson Valley.

He worked as a cowboy at the East Walker Ranch before joining the U.S. Navy at age 20. He served in the Pacific for the entire war on the USS Pensacola. He and his father and brother had the trash business at Lake Tahoe, then went on to drive logging trucks and drove milk and cattle trucks for the James Canyon Ranch. He finally worked for Continental Telephone Company until retirement. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at Walton's Funerals and Cremations in Gardnerville, 1521 Church St. A reception will immediately follow at Walton's.
