Depot Jamboree

This two-day event includes local artists, bluegrass music and, for train fans, the best part is "all aboard" in celebrating locomotives of the past. Adults and children together can check out the historical photos and art displays and have a great time with the hands-on locomotive simulator, children's handouts and seeing first hand how steam and diesel locomotives work. The second annual Depot Jamboree and the Historical Society of Dayton Valley is putting on the event with the intention of refurbishing the first standalone Carson & Colorado Railroad depot, which dates to 1881. If you relish the Old West, trains and historical memorabilia take a short drive to Dayton and enjoy.

The Stamp Out Hunger food drive

Call me old fashion, but I still like getting cards in the mail and I truly appreciate my mail delivery man. Once a year the Carson City mail men and women gather food for the annual food drive, Stamp Out Hunger. It is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The United States Postal carriers have collected 1 billion pounds of food since the beginning of this drive 20 years ago. What is great about this event is it is simple and all donations collected in Carson City will go to Advocates to End Domestic Violence and F.I.S.H. Just purchase your food donations and leave them by your mailboxes on Saturday, May 14 and your regular mail carrier will pick them up. It's easy and worth the effort of picking up a few extra items at the grocery store for those in need.

WHO: Carson City Post Office
