Obituary: Gerald "Reed" Robbins

Gerald "Reed" Robbins, 73, a resident of Carson City for 17 years, passed away on July 27, 2011. Reed fought a courageous fight with skin cancer. He was born in Los Angeles and grew up in North Hollywood, California. He was student body president of Los Angeles Valley College and graduated from Sacramento State University with a degree in Political Science. Reed worked for 25 years for Chevron USA in retail marketing and retired as the government affairs manager for the company.

As a second career, Reed was the Director of Human Services for FISH in Carson City. He was with FISH for 17 years. Reed enjoyed traveling, coin collecting, writing and painting. He is survived by his children Eric Reed Robbins of Laguna Niguel, California and Jennifer Melo of Lodi, California, long-time companion Donna Guzzetta of San Jose, California and six grandchildren. Reed was well known for his willingness to help those in need, his sense of humor and long conversations. His family and friends will dearly miss him.

He requested cremation and a private family memorial service will be held in Santa Cruz, California. Any notes or cards of remembrance can be sent to Donna Guzzetta, 1425 Cherry Avenue, #4, San Jose, California, 95125.
