A year-old baby boy was rescued unharmed Saturday after he allegedly was kidnapped from his mother in South Lake Tahoe by a 62-year-old woman and her 33-year-old son who took the child to their Holbrook home.
Douglas County Sheriff's Capt. John Milby said the sheriff's office was contacted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and advised that a kidnapping had just occurred.
According to Tahoe police, the child was kidnapped from his mother's residence by Salvador Miguel Aquino-Villavicencio, 33, and his mother, Josefina Villavicencio, 62, both of whom live in Douglas County at the Holbrook Trailer Park.
Milby said South Lake police advised that they were obtaining arrest warrants for the two, and requested DCSO respond to the Holbrook trailer park and attempt to locate the child.
Milby said a half dozen deputies and members of the Tri-County Gang Unit responded to the Holbrook Trailer Park at 1501 Highway 395 S., space No. 14, and contacted the Villavicencios.
"The child was also located inside the residence, and appeared unharmed," Milby said.
The Villavicencios were taken into custody without incident, and booked into the Douglas County Jail on fugitive arrest warrants for kidnapping and criminal conspiracy, and are now awaiting extradition.
Their bail was set at $150,000 each.
Milby said he did not know the relationship between the child and the suspects.
He praised the Douglas officers' response.
"It went very fast. We were contacted by South Lake Tahoe and asked to respond. Basically, we went and got the child. That was the extent of our involvement. Our guys did a great job. It was over in about 30 minutes," Milby said.
The Villavicencios are to appear in East Fork Justice Court today with aninterpreter.
