Dance classes start in September

Whether you prefer ballroom or barn, upcoming dance classes can get you in step and in shape.

Larry Ward, who has 55 years of experience teaching ballroom dance and square dancing, will teach three dance classes this fall in Carson City and Genoa.

• The 14-week beginners square dance class takes place from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays from Sept. 6 to Dec. 20 (dark on Sept. 20 and Nov. 8) in Genoa Town Hall. Registration is open the first two classes, Sept. 6 and 13. The square dance class is $6 for adults and $4 for ages 13-18 for each lesson.

• A ballroom class will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 12-Dec. 19 at Genoa Town Hall. Open registration is the first three classes, Sept. 12, 19, 26. Dances to be covered are the cha-cha, waltz, fox trot, salsa, East Coast swing, American tango and Texas two-step.

• A Ballroom Class also will take place 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 14-Dec. 21 (dark on Oct. 31), with an extended practice session following the lessons from 8:30-9:30 p.m. The classes will take place at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St. Registration is open the first three classes Sept. 12, 21, 28. Cost for either ballroom class is $8 adults /$5 teens for each lesson.

Swing it!

Yaples Ballroom is starting a six

-week series of classes in West Coast Swing taught by Donna Ewing, with classes for several levels. The first class is Sept. 1. The beginning class meets 6-7 p.m. No drop-in for this class, although intermediate studens are welcome to warm up.

From 7-7:30 p.m., there is practice dancing for beginning and intermediate classes. From 7:30-8:30 p.m. is the intermediate classes. Drop-ins are welcome for $10 per class. New choreography will be taught.

The full-six weeks is $50 per person and partners are not needed. Yaple's is at 315 N. Carson St. For information call the studio at 461-3262 or Ewing at 225-6437.
