A Reno company that makes a guitar that helps students learn to play the instrument more quickly said last week it's struck a deal with the world's largest publisher of music.

Optek Music Systems Inc. of Reno said it struck a partnership agreement with Hal Leonard Corp. of Milwaukee.

The Reno company makes a patented guitar known as the "Fretlight" in which lights in the fret show students where to place their fingers as they play along with instructional videos.

The new deal allows Optek to make the Hal Leonard catalog of instructional and play-along guitar videos available through the Optek technology. Both companies are privately held, and terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.
