Snow possible as winds move in

A high wind warning through this evening will bring with it a chance of up to four inches of snow in the foothills, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds of up to 70 mph are expected to come with a low pressure system centered off the Pacific Northwest Coast. The high wind warning is in effect until 10 p.m. tonight, said David Myrick, science and operations officer for the National Weather Service.

"(Today) the big concern is high profile vehicles traveling north and south on routes like Highway 395," said Myrick.

Also, said Myrick, travelers in outlying areas like Silver Springs should also be aware of dirt blowing across the roads and causing poor visibility.

Today there's a slight chance of rain with snow levels at 6,000 feet. The high is expected to be near 49 degrees and very windy, with a southwest wind between 35 and 40 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Wednesday a winter storm warning is in effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Forecasters predict snow with a high near 37 degrees and a low around 19. South winds will be expected around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. There's an 80 percent chance of precipitation with new snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Thursday sees a 30 percent chance of snow showers with a high near 31 and a low around 16.

And Friday and Saturday will see a chance of snow with a highs near 32 and a lows around 16 degrees.
