Starr Nixdorf got some inspiration on Tuesday during a social media seminar hosted by the Nevada Appeal.
Nixdorf, who co-owns Hair Studio & Spear Me, 198 W. Winnie Lane, came to the seminar to learn about social media and how her business can use it.
"I found it friendly, easy to understand, helpful information," Nixdorf said, adding she's now planning on adding a video about her business to its Facebook page and linking to similar businesses in the community to drive potential customers between Facebook pages and websites.
In all, more than 60 businesses attended the seminar at the Brewery Arts Center on Tuesday evening.
Eric Bengston, a social media expert for SwiftDigital, which is part of the Nevada Appeal's parent company, gave a presentation during the event.
The newspaper is now offering advertisers packages that include social media, from developing a Facebook page to managing an entire social media strategy, Bengston said. Besides Facebook customization and account management, the company also offers Twitter set-up, mobile marketing campaigns, Internet video and digital marketing strategies.
"Swift is a forward thinking company," he said. "Realizing our customers not only want to do print ads, but want to incorporate digital advertisements. It's a way to add value to our existing customer."
Nixdorf said she was surprised to learn about the service.
"I wasn't aware the Nevada Appeal had so many functions in its arsenal," she said.
