The winter storm that blew into the area Thursday night forced the closure of Highway 395 at Holbrook Junction.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the highway was closed at Lee Vining and Virginia Lakes due to high winds and whiteout conditions.
It remained closed as of press time.
The storm forces a winter storm warning that remains in effect until 10 p.m. today, with a chance of snow moving through Western Nevada early this morning with the heaviest snow falling through this afternoon.
Forecasters predict that
4-8 inches of snow could fall below 5,000 feet with a foot or more in the foothills.
Winds 15-25 mph, gusting up to 45 mph, are expected until it shifts out of the north this afternoon.
Snow and gusty winds are expected to produce dangerous driving conditions with blowing and drifting snow.
The storm is expected to decrease in intensity by Saturday.
