Specialty flashlight manufacturer SureFire of Fountain Valley, Calif., says its recently expanded 11,000-square-foot manufacturing center in Reno will be used to make the company's new high-capacity ammunition magazine product line.

SureFire, whose product lines include advanced LED flashlights, tactical weapons lights, and sound suppressors and muzzle breaks for firearms, says the high-capacity magazines are the result of more than two years of development efforts. The new facility allows the company to devote a single manufacturing operation to the new product line, says Public Relations Manager Ron Canfield.

About 10 workers will concentrate on assembly and distribution of the magazines, which hold 60 or 100 rounds and are built for AR-15 and M4/M16 rifles. Canfield says the company, founded in 1979, chose northern Nevada for its weapons manufacturing division because the state is more business friendly for manufacturing firearms accessories than neighboring California.

"SureFire's hope for the magazine is that it fulfills the needs of our military and municipal, state and government law enforcement who are adapting to constant changes in their operating environments," Canfield says. "The product has also sparked interest with the shooting sports community. It will be available to anyone who can legally possess a high-capacity magazine."
