A Dayton man who allegedly led police on a slow-speed chase before ramming two patrol cars and injuring a deputy was jailed early Friday morning on an attempted murder charge.
John Michael Foster, 46, was booked into the Carson City Jail at about 1:30 a.m. Friday on suspicion of felony attempted murder on a peace officer, battery with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, eluding a peace officer, misdemeanor drunken driving, threats and reckless driving.
Thursday night a casino employee reported Foster was harassing a woman. When security asked him to leave, he told them to leave him alone or he would shoot them. As he was driving out of the parking, the report states, Foster allegedly rammed a pillar in the valet and tried repeatedly to run down a security guard.
When Deputy Eric Clowser spotted Foster's truck allegedly speeding down Stewart Street, he attempted a traffic stop but Foster kept going.
The pursuit never went faster than 40 mph, said Clowser, but eventually Foster nearly wrecked at the corner of Wagner and Michael drives. When the deputy blocked Foster's truck from behind, Foster allegedly threw his truck into reverse and backed onto the hood of the patrol car.
After freeing himself from that entanglement, Foster then allegedly sped onto Winnie Lane where Clowser was able to use his patrol car in a maneuver that spun Foster's truck around 360 degrees, stalling it. Foster then allegedly got his truck restarted after another deputy tried to block him in with her patrol car.
According to Clowser, Foster gunned the engine and slammed into the second patrol car with enough force to activate both airbags and injure Deputy Tara Collier inside.
Collier was treated and released from the hospital. Foster also was treated and promptly arrested upon his release.
His bail is set at $150,000.
