Server Technology Corp. has completed installation of 24 solar panels on the roof of its headquarters in South Meadows, part of a plan by the company to become more environmentally friendly.
The maker of power-distribution products for data centers contracted with Hamilton Solar of Sparks for installation of the solar panels atop its 56,000-square-foot manufacturing and office facility.
The building is at 1040 Sandhill Road.
A portion of the cost of the system was offset through rebates from NV Energy.
Server Technology uses substantial power in its manufacturing assembly line as well as its testing facilities, said President Brandon Ewing, and the solar photovoltaic panels will help control power costs.
He said the solar installation is part of an initiative by the company to reduce its carbon footprint.
It installed energy-efficient T-8 lighting throughout the building, installed low-flow toilets and sensored faucets and hand dryers.
A big energy savings came from installation of videoconferencing technology to reduce travel needs.
Ewing said the company has mandated Energy Star designation for all its equipment purchases, and has launched recycling efforts that divert 14,000 pounds of paper and 1,500 pounds of aluminum, plastic and glass from waste streams.
