Join Stillwater refuge staff for a unique winter tour of the refuge on Jan. 22. Meet at the refuge office, 1000 Auction Road in Fallon, just behind the Speedway gas mart at 8 a.m. Transportation is provided, and the tour will return by 1 p.m.
Dress warm, wear boots, bring field gear or feel free to borrow field guides and binoculars from the refuge bird box. Bring a snack and water if desired.
January is a good time to visit the refuge as there should be a variety of waterfowl including Tundra swans and raptors including rough-legged hawks and some eagles, along with several mid-winter migrants. There could be a few non-birding surprises as well.
The tour is open to anyone, no field experience is necessary. RSVP as space is limited. This is a free activity.
