An Arizona company has acquired the used-oil collection business of Bango Oil Co.

Reno-based Bango will continue to own and operate a Churchill County plant that re-refines as much as 58,600 gallons of used lubricating oil a day back into motor oil and related products.

The oil-collection business was acquired by Thermo Fluids Inc., a company headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Terms weren't disclosed; both Thermo Fluids and Bango are privately held.

The two companies previously were competitors in the business of collecting used oil from quick-lube shops, auto dealerships, mining operations and industrial companies.

But while both were in the collections business, both delivered used oil to Bango's re-refining plant west of Fallon.

"Thermo's expertise is in a broad array of environment services, including used-oil collection. Bango's core expertise is in the design, construction and operating of used oil refineries. This acquisition helps both companies focus on their core strengths," said Roy Schumacher, vice president of market development for Thermo Fluids.

Along with used oil, Thermo Fluids collects and recycles wastes such as used antifreeze, used oil filters, commercial and industrial wastewater and liquids used to clean industrial parts. It operates 29 facilities that serve the West.

The Bango collections business primarily served customers in the Reno-Sparks area.

Thermo Fluids is a portfolio company of the private equity firm CIVC Parts.
