Obituary: AnnaMae Diedrichs

A servant of the Lord, AnnaMae Diedrichs, 91, died peacefully at her home in Carson City on Jan. 21, 2011. She was born on Feb. 26, 1919, in Cheltenham, Pa., to her parents Anna Hood and Horace Gibson. AnnaMae was the only daughter with six older brothers. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

AnnaMae lived in New Jersey until she moved to California in 1924. She grew up in West Hollywood, Calif. She graduated from John Marshall High School in East Hollywood. In 1957, Conrad Diedrichs moved in next door to her parents and they began a courtship. They were married on April 6, 1961, in Ojai, Calif., by a Lutheran minister. The Diedrichs moved to Glendale, Calif., and AnnaMae worked for the gas company for 33 years. After retirement AnnaMae and Conrad moved to Carson City and lived in an apartment complex they owned and managed on Lee St. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Conrad passed away in 2004.

AnnaMae was an avid reader and a dedicated supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. She was a true American patriot. Even though she never had children she managed to "adopt" hundreds of kids, grandkids, and dogs wherever she lived. She will always be remembered for her youthfulness, warm smile, contagious laughter, nutritional habits, social hour at Raley's, her love for this country, and her faith in God.

AnnaMae will be laid to rest with her husband at Lone Mountain Cemetery, in Carson City. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Carson City. Fitzhenry's Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to do so is encouraged to make donations to Sierra Lutheran High School.
