Matthew John McGill was accepted into the arms of our Heavenly Father when he passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2011.

Matt was born Aug. 23, 1977, in Reno. He graduated from Reed High School in 1995, and attended Truckee Meadows Community College.

He owned a drafting company "Matt's Plans" and worked on many projects in the Reno/Sparks/Carson area. While working at Stantec Engineering he was on the design team for the world's largest cement plant.

Throughout his life, Matt was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and was thrilled when they became last year's World Series Champions. He was a talented artist, played the guitar and drums, plus enjoyed golf with his friends and family. He also won several local pool tournaments. Matt had the ability to keep an entire auditorium of people laughing uncontrollably for hours.

The highlight of "Favorite Uncle Matt's" life was the time he spent with his nieces and nephews, Shelby McGill, Gabe Osuna, Javen Comeaux, Lexsie McGill, Penny Cardoza, Isaac McGill, Kylie McGill and Paige Cardoza.

Matt is survived by parents Dan McGill (Liana) and Sandy Haslem (Ron), brothers Kevin McGill (Sarah) and Mike McGill (Karissa), stepsisters Jen Horan (Jed) and Sara Cardoza (Dustin), stepbrothers Aaron Comeaux and Brian Haslem (Heather), grandparents Myrl and Marge Saarem, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and his dear girlfriend Shelley Brown.

Matt was a smart, funny and loving man who will be missed by many friends and family.

A Memorial Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at Holy Cross Church, 5650 Vista Blvd., Sparks.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory of Matthew McGill to The Washoe County Search & Rescue HASTY Team, c/o Washoe County Sheriff, 911 Parr Blvd., Reno, NV 89512.
