LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 49-year-old Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for raping a Canadian tourist and forcing her into prostitution in early January.

Clark County District Judge Valerie Adair sentenced Charles Ford on Tuesday after a jury found him guilty of five felony charges of sexual assault, pandering and living off the earnings of a prostitute.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that Ford's lawyer promised an appeal. The woman, from Alberta, Canada, testified she had been a prostitute as a teenager, but quit.

She said she was introduced to Ford while vacationing in Los Angeles and earning money for herself as a prostitute.

Prosecutors say Ford used threats and intimidation to coerce the woman into prostitution during New Year's weekend in Las Vegas.
