USDA energy grants

A ranch at Austin and a motel in Fallon have won grants from the Rural Energy for America program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Young Brothers Ranch of Austin won a $19,700 federal grant to help finance a 3,000-foot pipeline that will improve operation of a hydro-turbine generating system on a stream in the ranch.

The hydropower is used to operate an irrigation system. The grant paid a portion of the total project cost of $78,800.

Kishor Morar, owner of the Budget Inn in Fallon, won a $1,635 grant to replace the motel's water heater.

Mike's Plumbing of Fallon, did the work to replace the system with a high-efficiency water heater. The total project cost was $6,540.
