February 17, 1930 - June 1, 2011
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gilbert Lawrence DeLaura was born in Hartford, Conn., to Ane and Silvio DeLaura. As a young teen, he excelled at various jobs, especially at the local riding stables. His late teens brought him to a farm in Woodstock, Conn. where he enjoyed driving a team of horses. On Jan. 3, 1952, he married the farmer's daughter, Laura Reynolds.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1951-1957.
Having earned his Associates Degree in Engineering, he worked as a project inspector in that field for most of his life. This allowed him to work outdoors, which is where he preferred to be.
He moved his family west from Connecticut, finally settling in Nevada.
He had a quick wit, often ready with a humorous anecdote, and helping others brought him great joy.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years; daughters Nancy McCain and Betsy (Tony) Gould; brother Donald DeLaura; grandchildren Brian and Angela Huffman, Laura (Jason) Palotas, Christopher, Daniel, and Abigail Gould; great-grandchildren Rheannon Rowe, Hailey and Cole Palotas; and numerous members of his extended family.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
