Thanks for contributions to Dayton Food Pantry

Thank you for all the recent outstanding contributions to the "Partner with the Pantry" food drive. The Dayton Food Pantry accepted the "Feinstein Million Dollar Challenge" to raise donations of cash and food for the pantry during March and April. We are absolutely thrilled with the results. We received $5,122.30 in cash and checks and 12,434 items of food, giving us a grand total of $17,556. We have completed the application and anxiously await the results.

The challenge of feeding the hungry in our community is a daily struggle, but with this kind of support, we are reinvigorated to strive to meet that challenge each and every day.

The totals are impressive, but not as impressive as the spirit and energy displayed by our community in this remarkable effort. Local businesses, schools, clubs, churches, Lyon County Sheriff's Department, community organizations, local and county agencies and individuals came together to accomplish this awesome challenge. We at the food pantry and healthy communities continue to be humbled by the generosity and compassion of the people of Dayton, and our neighbors in the surrounding communities.

Thank you again for your support and donations to the Dayton Food Pantry. We anticipate that we will know what the Dayton Food Pantry's share of the Feinstein Challenge is sometime in August. We will do our best to publicize the results in our local papers, our Facebook page, and the coalition website, but please feel free to check with the pantry if you miss the announcement.

Positive news from

Bordewich-Bray fundraiser

In these tough times, I would like to share some positive news. We had our Great Bordewich-Bray Rummage Sale and Faire recently with a lot of help from our community. First of all, our principal and vice-principal gave us room and support to organize and run it. Tony Grasso, who has Central Carson Self Storage, donated most of the cost of a storage unit to us for three months. Our community, teachers and parents donated an amazing amount of things to sell. Teachers, parents and staff helped put the word out and also with the sorting/pricing and selling merchandise and manning our booths. Bouncerz gave us a great price and setup and takedown of a wonderful bouncy slide. Vendors came with unique offerings in their booths. People sent in cakes for our cakewalk. Kohl's sent wonderful volunteers to organize and work our sale and faire. They were cheerful, helpful and spent their two days off to help us. Kohl's then donated a very generous amount to our fund to help us pay for things for our students and school.

I am very proud to be part of this community and a member of the Bordewich Bray Elementary School PTA.
