After 14 years in business, Italian eatery, B'Sghetti's, is calling it quits.
Owner Scott Doerr sent out a letter Tuesday to members of the media announcing that the restaurant would close effective June 30.
"We choose not to blame economic factors for our closure, but accept the responsibility and consequences that are inherent with operating a small business in which boundaries are defined by those elected to lead," Doer said in his statement. "We are confident that we presented the best possible product to you, our respected guest, and explored every conceivable opportunity to proceed. Given our current circumstances (internal, and external) we no longer feel that we can effectively operate this concept with the diligence, determination, manpower, and product quality that you have come to expect from us."
Doerr said that he hoped Carson City will rally behind the remaining independent operators in downtown.
"The bypass is nearly complete, the Library project continues to be a possibility, the greenhouse project is a reality," he said. "The city has made a commitment to outdoor street life with the addition of the community ice rink, the organic farmers market, Christmas tree lighting, the Taste of Downtown, Nevada Day and various concert series. There will always be those who try to thwart achievement though hateful words and negative actions, but there are far more of you who have optimistic reason to believe that our city will pull through this economic downturn in much better shape than we entered it."
Doerr said the restaurant will be closed for all lunches, except for parties that have already been scheduled. The restaurant will open for business at 4 p.m. and close at 9 p.m.
The micro-lounge Plan:b will remain open, Doerr said.
He thanked the restaurant's customers for their patronage.
"It is unreasonable to think that we met or surpassed all of your expectations, but that was always our objective. It was our belief that through quality and consistency, you wouldn't hesitate to return, or recommend our restaurant to others, and you did just that. As for the numerous parties that we still have in the books, we will be contacting you to help you make other arrangements."
