Kimball Midwest Inc., an Ohio-based distributor of industrial maintenance supplies, purchased the former Scolari's warehouse along McCarran Boulevard just south of Interstate 80.

The new space allows Kimball Midwest to expand its fast-growing West Coast distribution, said an executive of the company.

Scolari's will continue to lease 38,875 square feet of the building from Kimball Midwest.

Another 40,000 of the building will be leased by SK Foods, a manufacturer of sandwiches and other food products.

SK, which already operates a 150,000-square-foot facility in Reno, will expand with the freezer and cooler space formerly operated by Scolari's in the building.

Kimball Midwest began looking for space to expand its West Coast distribution presence after boosting its sales in the region by more than 20 percent in recent months, said David Myers, a spokesman for the company.

It provides next-day service to West Coast customers from its Reno warehouse. It also operates distribution facilities at Dallas and at its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

The company plans to begin operations this autumn in 60,000 square feet of the newly acquired building.

It move from its current Reno location at 5385 Alpha Ave., near Reno-Stead Airport.

The remaining 54,000 square feet in the building will be available for lease.

Both Kimball Midwest and Scolari's were represented by Dave Simonsen, Michael Hoeck and Dan Oster of the industrial team of NAI Alliance.
