City manager to speak to Leisure Hour Club

Carson City Manager Larry Werner will speak to the Leisure Hour Club during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Carson City Nugget.

As the chief administrative officer for Carson City, Werner will share his insights and perspectives on the ever-changing environment of our city, the proposed City Center Project, and take a look at the challenges and opportunities facing the city and its residents.

Silver State Model T Ford Club to meet

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will hold its monthly membership meeting on Thursday. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. but Model T enthusiasts are encouraged to gather for dinner at 6 p.m. at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant, 2811 S. Carson St.

The Silver State Model T Ford Club is made up of Model T Ford enthusiasts from Western Nevada and Eastern California.

"Whether your car is running, is a project car or you're just interested in Model Ts, we welcome your attendance at our monthly meetings," said Chapter President Tony Ferris. "Our members help each other with restoration questions and get together for regular activities to learn more about their Ts and to have fun with these century-old cars."

Soroptimists offer Ladies Night Out

Soroptimist International of Carson City presents Champagne & Shoes, a special Ladies Night Out from 6-8 p.m. April 15 in the Nevada Room at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain St.

This is a night of excitement, fun, friendship, contests and prizes. Tickets also include gourmet hors d'oeuvres and champagne.

Guests are invited to enjoy the "Razzle dazzle 'Em Shoe Contest" as a contestant or judge. Wear your favorite new, used or creatively decorated shoes. Prizes will be awarded for best casual shoes, boots, elegant shoes and Gaga outrageous shoes. There also will be a prize for best ensemble.

Tickets are $30 per person and space is limited.

WNC presents Selling the Seasons

Western Nevada College's Specialty Crop Institute will present Selling the Seasons - Effective Farm Sales Strategies Throughout the Year from

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 2 at the college, 2201 W. College Parkway.

The day includes a tour of Hungry Mother Organic Farm & Roadside Stand in Minden.

Cost is $35, which includes lunch, $45 if registered after March 23.

This workshop explores sales and marketing options including Community Supported Agriculture, farmers markets, farm stands, restaurants and institutional sales, and forming collaborative marketing groups. Learn how to determine the best strategy for your enterprise.

Featured speaker will be Christof Bernau, who has been farming, gardening and teaching for 21 years, the past 12 at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he is garden manager and instructor at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems.

Senior center to host Mayors for Meals Day

Dayton Senior Center will hold Mayors for Meals Day as a part of its March for Meals campaign. Lyon County Commissioner Ray Feiro will participate in the event to show his support for our community's homebound and hungry seniors.

The March 21 event will include Commissioner Feiro going out and delivering homebound meals with the Dayton Senior Center driver Betty Wilson. This will give him the opportunity to meet some isolated seniors.

"We are excited about having Commissioner Feiro participate in our Mayors for Meals Day event," said Denise Earp from the center, "National Mayors for Meals Day is an excellent way to share what we provide in our community.

March For Meals is a national campaign during the month of March, initiated by the Meals On Wheels Association of America, which tries to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.
