Man on the run for 12 years goes to prison

A Colorado man who absconded from authorities for 12 years was sent to prison Tuesday.

John Charles Grosscurth, 57, had his probation revoked and must serve a sentence of 12 to 48 months in prison on a charge of obtaining money, property, rent or labor by false pretenses. Grosscurth was originally arrested in 1998. He was given probation and allowed to move to Montana, then absconded. In 1999, he checked in and agreed to surrender after undergoing surgery, but disappeared again. He was arrested in Colorado and brought back to Nevada to serve his sentence.

Also before Judge Todd Russell on Tuesday:

• Justin Benitez, 21, pleaded guilty to theft. Sentencing is set for May 17.

• Ashley Nicole Giamona, 23, was given a suspended prison sentence of 18 to 48 months, and up to three years probation on a charge of forgery.

• Brandon Michael Hicks, 18, was given a suspended jail sentence of one year and up to three years probation on a charge of intimidating a public officer.

• Timothy Michael Kane, 25, pleaded guilty to felony drunken driving.

• Danelle Renee Morri was given a suspended prison sentence of 12 to 34 months, and up to five years probation on a charge of attempting to possess or receive forged instruments.

• Alex Solis had his probation revoked and must serve a year in jail on a charge of possession of a dangerous weapon.
