Registration is being taken for a one-day workshop on growing grapes in Nevada's harsh climate, scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 7.

"Extreme Grape Growing - The Grapes of Wrath: Learn to Grow Interspecific Wine Grapes in Northern Nevada's Harsh Climate" will be taught by Rick Halbardier, founding owner and winemaker for Tahoe Ridge Winery and president of the Nevada Wine & Grape Growers Association.

Learn about grape varietals that grow in Northern Nevada, which soils are right to support grape vines, drip irrigation systems and how they conserve water in our arid desert climate, the economics and business of growing grapes, and more.

The includes both class and field visist to the vineyard and winery operations of Tahoe Ridge. Participants will receive an interspecific grape vine at the end of th class.

Cost is $35 and includes lunch and Nevada interspecific wine barrel tasting.

Greenhouse Garden Center presents the free spring workshop "Gardening Naturally With Beneficial Insects and Micro-organisms" 10-11 a.m. today.

Not all insects are bad. Learn how garden without using harmful chemicals by using beneficial insects and micro-organisms.

Reservations are not required for the seminar, which will be taught by David Ruf, owner of the center. Dress appropriate for the weather.

The Green Thumb Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. March 28 at the United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
