Following an announcement last week that alcohol compliance checks would take place Monday, three out of the 20 businesses visited Monday afternoon served alcohol to an underage sheriff's decoy, said Deputy Sal Acosta.
According to Acosta, the following businesses failed the compliance check:
Red's Old 395 Grill at 1055 S. Carson St., Pizza Factory at 127 Clearview Drive and Locals BBQ at 3849 S. Carson St.
The clerk or sever in each sale was issued a $632 citation, which they are responsible for paying.
The city also will issue a civil citation to the liquor license holder. For the first offense in six months, the licensee receives a $100 fine, the second is a $500 fine and on the third offense the licensee will be fined $1,500 and face suspension or revocation of their license by the Liquor Board. Each of Monday's failures were considered first-time offenses for the businesses.
The compliance checks are funded by a grant from the Enforcing the Underage Drinking Laws Program. EUDL, a program from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice, funds efforts by states and local jurisdictions to prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors and the purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors.
