Joan Fettic, 75, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on April 26, 2011. She was born in Los Angeles on July 20, 1935. She has been a resident of Carson City since 1961, moving from Oakland to Reno, then to Carson City. Her parents, Earl Burdick and Carolyn Cummings, and beloved cats Misty and Arnie precede Joan in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Tom Fettic; daughter Lori Heath (Roger); sons Dana Hindson (Michael) and Blaine Fettic (Julia); five grandchildren: Kris Heath (Michelle), Mary Fettic, Karalyn Heath, Brandi Fettic, and Joey Fettic; and great-granddaughter Aja Fettic.
Joan had several jobs during her life including clerk of the shops on Treasure Island Naval Base, optometry assistant, both Keno runner and writer (the old way with brushes) leading to her favorite and last job at Carson City Justice Court. She served 26 years as senior clerk for judges Tom Davis, Tom Tatro and Robey Willis and loved every minute of it.
Joan had a strong love for the outdoors. She enjoyed painting landscapes, working outside in her garden, and traveling in the RV, for ice fishing, and camping. Her past interests included ballroom dancing with her husband, tap dancing with her daughter, street motorcycling and bowling. But camping with family and friends (and the cats, of course) was her favorite, harkening back to her summers camping as a Camp Fire Girl at Camp Ceilo by the Yuba River. Many have enjoyed her renditions of songs learned during those summers. Her greatest love in life, however, was her family.
There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7 at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City.
