City needs help with mock antibiotic dispensing exercise

A mass antibiotic dispensing exercise is planned from 4-6 p.m. May 12. The Carson City Health and Human Services Department will do a mock dispensing exercise, and they are looking for help from the community to see how effective they are at moving people through quickly.

They are asking heads of household, or another family representative, to come to the Senior Center on Beverly Drive to fill out forms and pick up mock medicine. Although there won't be real medicine, the exercise will let the department know what they need to work on in case of a real emergency.

The first 1,000 people who complete the necessary paperwork will receive a gift card as a thank you.

Biennial Session Stampede organized

The inaugual Biennial Session Stampede 5K will be from 3:30-6:30 p.m. May 12 at the Firkin & Fox, 310 S Carson St., in Carson City.

The event is created by David Bobzien and Ashley Massey. Run or walk, start and finish behind Firkin and Fox.

Awards will be presented for top Democrat, top Republican, top staff, top lobbyist, and others.

Race proceeds go to support the Children's Cabinet. Race volunteers are needed.

Rummage sale planned

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church will host a rummage sale 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. May 21. The church is located at 3680 U.S. Highway 395 near Best Buy. For more information, call 267-3680.

Concordia handbell choir to appear in Gardnerville

Trinity Lutheran Church will host the Concordia University-Irvine's Handbells and Hand Chimes in a free concert at 7 p.m. May 19. An offering will be taken to cover expenses.

Directed by Dr. Herbert Geisler and Nancy Jessup, the choir will perform a 90-minute concert that appeals to all age groups and tastes. They play a wide variety of music, sacred to classical to modern to popular, using 122 handbells and choir chimes as well as many other instruments, performed by full ensembles as well as solos, duets, and quartets.

At the end of the concert, beginners from the audience will be invited to learn and perform a fully-harmonized hymn within 10 minutes.

Applications available for Karson Kruzers event

Karson Kruzers 27th annual 'Run What Cha Brung Car Show' is set for June 24-26 at Fuji Park.

Vendor applications and applications to all vehicles, including motorcycles, are now being accepted.

The cost to show a vehicle is $65 for early registration until June 1, or $75 after. The show-n-shine only is $50 before June 1, or $55 after.

Run for the Bucket slated

Put your best foot forward for free. The fifth annual walk/run/bike is sponsored by CASA of Carson City, Muscle Powered and We Can Carson City will be May 21.

The event starts at 9 a.m. but participants should arrive early to register at Riverview Park, the far east end of Fifth Street.

Donations are accepted, and there will be large buckets at the event for donations, spare change, checks and large bills.

There will be lots of goodies and information for everyone.

The 5K course along the Mexican Ditch Trail can be completed by all runners, walkers and bicyclits. An optional longer ride is also available along the path.

The short run, or kids fun run/bike will be 1-1/4 miles starting immediately following the 5K start and will be onthe trails in the park.

Police Memorial Week Parade set for Virginia City

The Police Memorial Week Parade will start at noon May 14 on C Street in Virginia City.

The parade will include color guards, honor guards, vintage lawmen, bagpipers, vintage emergency vehicles, mounted officers, motor officers and police vehicles.

The Silver State National Peace Officers Museum is sponsoring the second annual Parade. This parade is held in honor of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty throughout history as well as for those who currently serve and have served their communities in the law enforcement profession. Nowhere else in the western United States will you find a parade dedicated to law enforcement.

The Silver State National Peace Officers Museum features historical artifacts from the law enforcement profession dating to the 1780s from all across America, and is located within the 1876 Storey County Jail inside the courthouse.

Bring the family for a full day of fun with the parade, vehicle show, and collector show. Then enjoy the museum with the Kid's Station, the Nevada Officers Memorial Room, the Hall of History, and even have your picture taken in original 1876 jail cells!

The parade is held in conjunction with a Restored Emergency Vehicle Show and Collectors Show which run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The museum opened for the season May 1 and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Christian women's monthly meeting planned

Sierra Nevada Christian Women's Club presents their monthly luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May 17, Tamarack Junction, 13101 S. Virginia St., Reno, in the casino's banquet area. Reservations are due by May 13.

The guest speaker is Helen Pachaud, a reluctant off-road motorcycle enthusiast who tells how to ride out the tough times.

Featured presentation is by Sina Ward, director of Senior Outreach Services at Sanford Center for Aging.

Spring Tea and Fashion Show at St. Gall Church

Tickets are on sale now for St. Gall Women's Society annual "Spring Tea and Fashion Show" fundraiser which will be at noon May 21 in the St. Gall Pastoral Center, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

This year's tea will include, a champagne preview of the decorated tables, raffle prizes, silent auction, and a sit down tea with variety of mini sandwiches, scones, breads and desserts and a fashion show from local shops, "Ruby Rose," "Especially for You," and "Sidestreet Boutique."

Night of contemporary worship music planned

Valley Christian Fellowship in Gardnerville Ranchos will host a concert at 7 p.m. May 26 with four worship bands from the Carson region: Once Refused, FireFire, Jacob Taylor and I Am "They."

All the bands will have tables set-up to sell CDs and other merchandise. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door, and are available at Valley Christian Fellowship, Napa Auto Parts in Gardnerville, The Manger Bookstore in Carson City, Itickets.com, Calvary Chapel in Carson City and San Rafael Coffee Co. in Carson City.
