Breaking the Sabbath: Mr. Yerington is responsible for breaking of the Sabbath on Treadway's Ranch by target shooting. We don't really hold that Mr. Yerington is responsible for the rifle shooting, but think he must be the man who knocked stocks and introduced the smallpox in Gold Hill, and perhaps in causing the fish to refuse to bite at the Mexican Dam.

Cow licks: A Kansas paper tells a story about a cow who lost her calf and transferred her affections to the fourteen-year old boy. The cow licks him just as she would a calf and only responds to the boy.

Leisure Hour Club: The regular meeting of the Leisure Hour Club was held at the club house on Musser. Music Week was celebrated by community singing led by Miss Julia Kringlen. Spacemen given ovation: Alan B. Shepard Jr., 37, had a hero's reward - a kiss, a medal, and the frenzied acclaim of the adoring crowd - a kiss from his wife, a medal from President Kennedy and the cheers of his countrymen.

20 YEARS AGO

A new 800-pound cross was moved into place on top of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic church. The impressive, 15-foot gold powder-coated cross swayed in the breeze as it was guided into the holding area of the steeple.
