Soulcycler show kicks off Amgen Tour

Rick Gunn, South Lake Tahoe resident and former Nevada Appeal photographer, will kick off the Amgen Tour with a show at the Mont Bleu Casino in Stateline on Saturday detailing his bike trip around the world.

Since returning from his 25,811-mile journey, circumnavigating the globe through 33 countries, Gunn has been sharing photos and insights through his Soulcycler show.

"As we heal ourselves, so do we heal the world," he said is the theme.

Although he has brought his show to Carson City before, it's a chance for those who haven't seen it to see it or to see it again.

"It's going to be a great event," Gunn said. "My show is still very pertinent to the current global situation."

Doors will open at 7:30. The show begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

The 2011 Amgen Tour of California, a Tour de France-style cycling road race, presented by AEG, challenges the world's top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding course from Saturday through May 22.

Lake Tahoe, America's largest alpine lake, welcomes the world's cycling elite to the Overall Start and Stage 1 Finish and Stage 2 Start. The Stage 2 Start begins under the Olympic rings at the base of Squaw Valley USA on Monday.

5K in Dayton on Saturday

Stand Tall and the Dayton Task Force are co-sponsoring a Healthy Communities Coalition 5K Walk/Run to benefit local students through the Dayton Resource Bank and Stand Tall youth leadership teams.

The race will begin 8:30 a.m. May 14 at the Como Park near Dayton Elementary School.
