130 YEARS AGO

Treasure trove: After excavating the sewer between Second, Third, Ormsby and Nevada streets, the laborers found an eighty-pound letter press. Attached to it was a heavy log-chain and a primitive style iron safe. In 1863 a fire broke out in a heavy business house and a safe containing large sum of money, bonds, etc. was removed. During the excitement of the fire the safe was forgotten. Suspicion rested upon a kleptomaniac but no one saw him remove the missing property. Efforts to remove the safe now may be scarcely worth it.

Edison's invention: Edison has completed an invention by which the production of a play can be sent by wire. You can sit one hundred miles away, and listen to the words of the actors and see every motion of their bodies.
