ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Construction is expected to resume Monday on the Ruby Pipeline project in portions of northern Nevada after shutting down March 1 during the height of the sage grouse breeding season.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports crews will resume work in portions of Elko, Humboldt and Washoe counties.
The temporary work shutdowns in the areas were taken to protect sage grouse breeding areas known as leks. The bird is listed as a candidate for protection under the Endangered Species Act.
The 678-mile natural gas pipeline will extend from Opal., Wyo., to near Malin, Ore., and run across northern Utah and Nevada.
El Paso Corp. plans to put the pipeline into service in July.
