Transportation organizations from around the region gathered inside the Legislature on Wednesday for a chance to display their upcoming projects to the public.
The event, part of the Northern Nevada Transportation Collaborative, featured bike path plans around Carson City as well as upcoming improvements to trails around Genoa and a new security checkpoint at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
Carl Hasty, the district manager of the Tahoe Transportation District, said the public usually learns about these projects at meetings, "but rarely do they get to see it all put together."
It's the first open house of three planned this year, the next two taking place in Carson Valley and the Reno-Sparks area in June. For more information visit www.nntc.info.
In Carson City, the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization displayed it's results of a study showing potential bike and walking paths along U.S. 395.
The path currently ends at Northridge Drive and, "the goal is to continue it," said Dan Doenges, the senior transportation planner for CAMPO.
Other projects featured at the open house included plan biking trails around Lake Tahoe as well as a potential transit ferry to shuttle people from north and south Lake Tahoe.
Meanwhile, construction on a remodeled terminal and relocated security checkpoint at the Reno airport is expected to start this fall with a completion date in early 2013.
