A memorial was erected to Keegan Aiazzi and Stephen Anderson, Carson High School students killed in a diving accident last year. The football players would have been seniors this year.
With a heavy heart I stood along the sidelines during the last regular season football game Nov. 4 and witnessed Coach Blair Roman and the senior football players recognize Stephen Anderson and Keegan Aiazzi during senior night presentations.
Anderson and Aiazzi died in a diving accident in April of this year.
These young men had been teammates of the Carson High School football team and would have been seniors this season. The families of the two young men were in attendance to receive glass-encased jerseys that the boys had worn.
Along with the jerseys, the young men will forever be enshrined on our campus as the unveiling of a memorial to Anderson and Aiazzi also took place that night. Due to generous donations from the Carson City community and with the help of some local businesses, as you enter the CHS stadium to the left, there are two maple trees, a bench, and a rock with a plaque.

Also, the names of the boys have been placed on the Carson High School Tree of Life in remembrance of their character and contributions to the school. With the moon shining bright and with the feeling that Anderson and Aiazzi were on the sidelines, the CHS football team went on to defeat Reno and finish with an undefeated record in league.
SPORTS SHORTS
Congrats to the Carson girls cross country team for winning the state title. Congrats to the CHS girls' soccer team for upsetting Douglas for the regional title. And congratulations to Carlos Mendeguia for being named the new head boys' varsity basketball coach at CHS.
Carlos has served as the assistant for the past 12 years. Good luck coach Mendeguia in your upcoming inaugural season as head coach.
MATH TUTORING
Math tutoring is available 2-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tutoring is in room 223 and is free for all students. There is one math teacher assigned to the room with two to three tutors.
The tutors were hired from our higher level math classes. Tutors are qualified to tutor all levels of math up to trigonometry and calculus.
BUSINESS OF THE MONTH
CHS recognizes Cress Manufacturing Company, Inc. as November business of the month. Cress is a leader in the manufacture of ceramic kilns, glass kilns and electric furnaces.
The ceramics department at CHS uses Cress kilns. In keeping with their goal to achieve an excellent product and provide excellent service to their customers, Cress has consistently supported our school.
CHS thanks Cress Kilns and Arturo Maldonado, president of the Cress Manufacturing and Distribution Facility in Carson City for their continuous help and support to our school.
CRAFT FAIR THIS WEEK
The 17th annual Carson High Craft Fair is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m.. Saturday.
Friday's admission price is $2 for adults, who can return free on Saturday. Saturday's entry is only $1.50 or $1 with a canned food item for Friends In Service Helping given at the door. Students K-12 are free.
All profits from the craft fair go directly to Carson High. This year we'll have lots of new vendors as well as your favorites, and Santa is on hand for photos. Raffle prizes too.
Culinary arts students will be cooking, and the band is sponsoring Carson City BBQ. Come early and spend the day. It's fun for the whole family.
ROTC INSPECTIONS
The Naval Junior ROTC Unit will conduct its annual military inspection a 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on the soccer field behind the NJROTC center.
It includes a pass-in-review of the company and performances by two drill teams.
Cadet Lt. Cmdr. Rhett Petrenko will lead the cadets in the review. Col. Chandler, the commanding officer for the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Pickel Meadow will be the inspecting officer along with Sgt. Maj. Power.
The NJROTC Unit invites parents, family and friends of the cadets to attend this public event, which should be completed by 1:45 p.m. They extend a special invitation to veterans, members of the Carson City School District, supporting organizations, and staff members who may have a prep period during the ceremony. Do you remember Austin Pacheco's amazing 64-yard goal? In an effort to raise money for high school football and recognize exceptional talent by student athletes on the football field, this national video contest highlights the biggest moments from this year's high school football season.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
This week's senior spotlight is on Alyson Christl. Christl has a weighted grade-point average of 4.42. In addition, Christl is the student body secretary. She also is a member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and was a member of the varsity volleyball team. Next year, Christl is planning on going to school and major in English and psychology. CHS is proud of Christl and her contributions and dedication to our school.
STAFF FACTS:
Answer to last week's fact: Nevada's Gatorade Player of the Year in 1988 in football is Carlos Mendeguia, physical education teacher and head boys basketball coach at CHS.
New Fact: This person has a degree in electrical engineering and worked for four years at GE prior to becoming a teacher at CHS. He also holds a contractor's license and helped build the First Baptist Church in Gardnerville.
