Obituary: Dexter Louis Derscheid

Dexter Louis Derscheid, 46, will be greatly missed after passing away quietly in his home on the afternoon of November 17, 2011. Dex was born on May 16, 1965 to Patsy and Ronald Derscheid. He was raised in Carson City, Nevada and Ogden, Utah.

Dex graduated from Carson High School in 1983, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in technical sales from Weber State University in 1994. He worked in bartending, sales, education and started and operated his own nightclub, Zipperz, in Ogden, during the 1990's.

Those who knew Dex, knew him as the fun-loving, independent, unique, creative, free-spirit who always made them laugh. Those who knew him best, knew his kindness, warmth and generosity. Dex had the unique ability to accept all people regardless of what they looked like or where they came from.

Dex enjoyed his family, especially the phone calls and visits from his loving uncles Steve and Ron, good music, friends, the outdoors, and his cousin-in-law Jamii's fantastic cooking. Dexter was particularly close to his cousin Kelly, with whom he spoke to nearly every day.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Patsy and Ronald Derscheid; grandparents, Peter Piersanti and Faye Waiton. Faye Waiton raised Dexter as one of her children rather than as a grandchild.

He is survived by his step-mother, Linda Derscheid, Altus, Okla.; uncles Ron (Anne) Piersanti, Carson City, Nev., Steve (Kate) Piersanti, San Pablo, Calif.; cousins Kelly (Jamii) Piersanti, Layton, Utah, Jeff (Mary) Piersanti, Ogden, Utah, Colette (Ray) Checketts, Logan, Utah; his aunt Sharon (Richard) Syme, Ogden, Utah; cousins Deron (Chelsea) Wood, Seattle, Wash., Heather (Jesus) Luna, Dayton, Nev., Josh (Heidi) Piersanti, Wayne, Neb.; numerous other cousins and his cat, "Spirit."

A special thanks to his long time friend, Bill Webb, who was like a brother; Greg Hull, and his neighbors, Lyle, Reva and Tina Tripp for their love and concern.

Dex would say a big, "I love you," to his niece Hana, who loved him without question. Dex often said that his relationship with her was the most special during his entire life.

Dex, you were right when you said, "certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture your heart." You left the party a little too soon, and it won't be the same without you, but we will forever love you and miss you.

A graveside service for Dexter Derscheid will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11:30am at Lone Mountain Cemetery, Carson City, Nevada.
