If the Salvation Army's bell ringers outside local stores didn't clue you in that the holiday is here, Saturday and Sunday an invasion of Marines will hit area Walmarts in support of Toys for Tots.
Joyce Buckingham of the Ron Wood Family Resource Center is once again the organizer for the capital city's largest toy drive which has provided toys for local children up to 17 years old for more than 10 years. In 2009, Carson City's Toys For Tots program provided toys for more than 5,000 children, 20 charitable organizations and distributed more than 22,000 toys.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.
Buckingham said beginning this weekend Marines will be at the local Walmarts from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to collect the donations.
