A Carson City woman was arrested this morning, two hours after she allegedly robbed a bank at gunpoint.
Rachel Darlene Barrett, 30, is being held in the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony robbery with the use of a deadly weapon.
According to investigators, a woman dressed in a green-hooded sweatshirt, torn jeans and wearing a baseball cap walked into the Nevada State Bank in the 4600 block of South Carson Street and announced, "Put your hands up." She then allegedly took several thousand dollars in cash and fled on foot.
A search for the suspect led police to a Honda SUV parked on the east side of Mattress Land, adjacent to the bank, which was registered to Barrett at Mountain View Village apartments nearby. A witness at the bank reportedly saw the robber attempting to get into the SUV, but when the robber saw the witness, the robber ran away.
When a deputy went to the apartment, he could see Barrett through the window, and according to the officer, she matched the robber's description.
An hour after officers first started knocking, Barrett opened the door and said she was hard of hearing and didn't know anyone was there, said Undersheriff Steve Albertsen.
She was taken into custody.
Bail is set at $40,000.
