About 5 acres of solar panels were installed on CHS grounds this fall.
The project is complete, and we are going to celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony 2:30 p.m. Wednesday Students, staff, and dignitaries from the community will be on hand to unveil the solar panels.
Hamilton Solar of Reno installed 9,604 photovoltaic solar panels at five schools in Carson, including here at CHS which is enough to cover three football fields, according to the project contractor.
According to NV Energy, the solar panels are expected to reduce the school district's annual electricity usage by 2.9 to 3.9 million kilowatt hours, equivalent to the amount of electricity required to power 300 to 400 homes in Northern Nevada for a year.
The Carson High School solar site is Nevada's largest site-servicing solar project to date.

FBLA partners with Chamber
The Carson City Chamber of Commerce has graciously paid the national dues of our local CHS chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). The $20 dues for were paid for 34 members of the chapter making it a total donation of $680 from the Chamber.
Ronni Hannaman, director of the Carson Chamber, said "they are very proud of CHS's FBLA and our high school."
On top of the donation, the Chamber of Commerce made every FBLA student an honorary member of the organization. The two groups will be partnering together to make a brochure about Carson City School District, with specific attention given to Carson High School. The brochure will be used by the Chamber to give to companies looking to relocate to Carson City.
The project is due to be completed in the spring of 2012. FBLA members Michael Samii, Mohammad Sayafi, Samantha Lowe, Margaret Duvall, Cara Dopf, Rebecca Matley, and Porfirio Jauregui also participated this week at the FBLA Leadership Extravaganza conference in Reno.
While at the conference, the CHS FBLA was awarded the "Most Enthusiastic Chapter."
In addition, FBLA members and the Speech and Debate Club are selling bags of ground coffee. Coffee can be purchased from any member of these clubs for ten dollars a bag. "Senators' Blend" coffee comes in both a medium and a bold blend.

Carson Performing Arts announces lineup
A theater season has been chosen for Carson Performing Arts. We are proud to announce the Northern Nevada High School premiere of "Legally Blonde" as this year's musical in March.
In December, the club will present a social awareness piece, "Lockdown: Code Red," an original piece on the current phenomena of locking down schools in the event of terrorism or violence.
January will present an edgy and contemporary view of Weapons of Mass Destruction in "Hiroshima: Crucible of Light."
April brings their last main stage performance of "Beauty and the Beast." This is a 50-minute, non-musical version for children representing Fairytale Theatre's 20th year of presenting live theater.

Winter sports signups
Winter sport signups will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the north foyer. Coaches will be available to talk about tryouts and practices.
Winter sports include basketball, wrestling and ski team. Completed athletic packets will be collected at this time. Packets can be turned into the athletic office 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 2-7. Packets are available at www.carsonhigh.com under the "Athletics" link.
All freshman and juniors must have a physical before tryouts. All athletes must have at least a 2.0 grade-point average.
Returning athletes from the fall can sign up with their respective coaches until Nov. 4, and not attend the sign up night. Cheerleading tryouts will be held at a different time. For more information, contact the athletic office at 283-1900.
Safe Grad needs help
CHS Safe Grad is a 23-year tradition that provides graduating seniors with an all-night party and culminates with a trip to Six Flags Amusement Park.
This event is in peril. For Safe Grad to continue there must be a board of directors in place by Oct. 31.

October Business of the Month
CHS honors Grandma Hattie's as the Business of the Month for October. Grandma Hattie's, with its owner John Hurzel, has constantly supported all the activities at Carson High School.
It provides food for sports, theater, band, individual classrooms, concession stands, and hospitality rooms, and is also supportive of the inner workings of the programs.
Skills USA, on both the local and state level, has benefited from Grandma Hattie's sponsoring the competitions. Grandma Hattie's hires our students and has been a founding member of the CHS Career and Technical Skills Committee. Thank you Grandma Hattie's for supporting CHS education!
Senior Spotlight
This week's senior spotlight is on Bryce Arbour. Bryce has a grade-point average of 4.7.
In addition, Bryce is a Carson High School math tutor and has been a Link Crew Leader for the past two years. He is an active participant in school events and has competed in the annual lip sync contest as well as the talent show.
Bryce has played the drums for more than six years and plays with a band at local events. He is considering a career in public policy and law and will be applying to Stanford University.
CHS is proud of the contribution Bryce has made to the class of 2012.
