Clerk-recorder to present supervisors with canvass of special election vote

Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover will present the Board of Supervisors with a canvass of the special election vote Monday morning.

State law requires supervervisors to canvass the vote seven working days after each election.

Glover also generally offers his perceptions of the turnout, and details any trends he notices or problems encountered.

The board will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Other meetings this week:

• The Carson River Advisory Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Sierra Room. Among the topics to be discussed or acted on will be the introduction of Daniel Westermeyer, a new committee member for recreational issues; possible action to elect a new vice-chairman for 2011; a presentation on quagga mussels in Lahontan and Rye Patch reservoirs and their threat to the Carson River; discussion on the Carson River Cleanup day and installation of bat habitat boxes; discussion on regulatory jurisdiction and enforcement issues associated with inappropriate motorized uses in the river; and a discussion on the Phase 2 construction schedule for Carson River Park.

• The Carson City Cultural Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sierra Room. The commission is scheduled to discuss or take action on the following items: an update on a charter high school for the performing arts; update on the Greenhouse Garden Project; update on the I-beam from the World Trade Center; and continued discussion on the development of a Cultural Strategic Plan and possible opportunity for city support.
