Obituary: Fabiola Correa

Fabiola Correa ('Abuela'), 88, passed away September 15, 2011 in Carson City, NV. Fabiola was born on March 27, 1923 in La Estrella, Colombia to Luis and Elvira Garces. She was one of 16 brothers and sisters of which 11 survived to adulthood. Fabiola married Emilio Correa on June 29, 1949 and they later immigrated to Miami, Florida in 1952. Subsequently, they lived together in the Bronx, New York, and Hollywood, California. Both became naturalized U.S. citizens in 1979. During her life in California, Fabiola worked as a clerk with the Bank of America and raised their three children. Fabiola lost her husband "Papi" to cancer in 1984 and afterwards moved to Maywood, California to live with her sisters, Mago McFadden, Blanca Garces and, Emilia Garces, her mother Elvira Garces, and her nephew Brian McFadden. After the passing of Fabiola's mother, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona with her sisters and nephew. Because of her contagious smile and gregarious nature, Fabiola was hired as a hostess at a local restaurant. In 1996, Fabiola returned to see her family in Colombia during a two-week vacation. In the summer of 2000, Fabiola relocated to Carson City, Nevada to be near her children and grandchildren. From 2001 to 2007, she became a familiar face while working as a sample person at Costco. She loved her job and made many friends in Carson City. Fabiola is survived by her daughters Brenda Fraga (Joseph) and Maria Wilson (Jeffrey), her son, Thomas Correa (Monica), six brothers and sisters, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren with one on the way, 40 nephews and nieces, her beloved dog, Mimi, and close friend and caregiver, Maria Rodriguez. Fabiola will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We are comforted to know that Abuela has been reunited with Papi in heaven. We love you, we miss you, and you will be in our hearts forever.

There will be a Memorial service on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Chapel at St Teresa Catholic Church in Carson City, NV.
