Event for Warren Engine Co. today at Governor's Mansion

Warren Engine Co. No. 1 presents "Light Your Fire at the Governor's Mansion," from 5-9 p.m. today in the Nevada Room of the Governor's Mansion. Live music by Mike and the Liabilities band, catered hors d'oeuvres, no-host bar, raffles and silent auction. Unveiling of recently restored circa 1900 chemical fire suppression cart. Cost is $30.

Auditions Sunday for 'Tuna Christmas'

Proscenium Players, Inc. has announced auditions for its first production of its 2011/2012 season, "A Tuna Christmas," a comedy set in the fictional small town of Tuna, Texas.

There are plenty of characters for ages 18-118. Auditions will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., Carson City, in the Maize Harris Jesse Theater. No preparation is necessary, but your best Texas accent is desired. Rehearsals will begin immediately and performances will take place from Dec. 2 to 11. Food for Thought golf tournament set

Join Pinion Hills Elementary School for its first Food for Thought Golf Tournament at Sunridge Golf Club.

Shotgun start is at 9 a.m. Oct. 1.

Carson City and Carson Valley typically have more than 800 homeless and children in need enrolled in schools. Many have very little or no food to eat on the weekends. Food for Thought provides a bag of food for these children at their schools.

Participants are asked to bring a food item to donate, which includes microwavable soup, juice boxes, power bars, granola bars, fruit cups in plastic containers, crackers with peanut butter or cheese.

Registration is $60 which includes cart, lunch and raffle prizes.

Murder mystery event to benefit Children's Museum

Who killed Flabbius Corpus? Was it Maximus Testosterus, or maybe Bogus Fortunatus?

You have the opportunity to solve this ancient Roman murder at the Children's Museum Murder Mystery on Oct. 1. Cocktails are at 5 p.m. with dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Enjoy a tri-tip dinner and meet the eight prime suspects as we work to unravel the clues to this mystery. And, if you would like, wear a toga to get into the scene.

Before the dinner, bid on auction items that include Disney park-hopper tickets, Kirkwood and Mammoth ski packages, tickets to area sporting events, area hotel dine-and-stay packages, and many more.

Plan to get your tickets early since seating is limited and a sell-out crowd is expected. Tickets are $35 and available at the Children's Museum at 813 N. Carson St.

Chamber Singers to begin rehearsals

Carson Chamber Singers, conducted by Judy Monson, begins rehearsals for the 2011-12 season Tuesday, at First United Methodist Church in Carson City. The first performance will be the Holiday Treat, a joint concert with the Carson City Symphony, on Dec. 12 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.

The Carson Chamber Singers, an affiliate of the symphony, has immediate openings for tenors and basses. Rehearsals are at 7 p.m. Tuesdays. Singers who are interested in auditioning should contact Director Monson at 775-882-7464 or the Symphony at 775-883-4154.

Carson Chamber Singers, founded in 1985, participate in the Symphony's annual "Holiday Treat" and "Pops Party" concerts in Carson City and the Reno Philharmonic's July Third and Fourth concerts at Bartley Ranch in Reno and Mormon Station Park in Genoa. They have sung at several venues in Carson City; and in Reno, Virginia City, Minden, Genoa, and Fallon.

The Carson City Senior Center's Happy Senior Tours group will travel to Harvey's on Oct. 11.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m. in the east parking lot of the senior center and depart at 8:15 sharp. The group returns at 4 p.m. Cost for the trip will be $17, and the casino will give each guest a $10 free play and food voucher.

Author Dale Brown is coming to town

The Friends of the Carson City Library invite the public to an evening with author Dale Brown at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the library, 900 N. Roop St.

Brown, a former U.S. Air Force captain, is the author of 23 action-adventure thriller novels, from "Flight of the Old Dog" (1987) to "A Time For Patriots" (2011).

Many of his books are available at the Carson City Library.
