Nevada Business Connections adds advisory board members

Nevada Business Connections recently added Amy Ginder, director of Institutional Research at Western Nevada College, and Fred Steinmann, managing principal at EDSolutions LLC, to its advisory board.

Ginder joins Western Nevada College as the director of development at the WNC Foundation. She brings 13 years of outreach and communications experience, including four years in higher education through the University Studies Abroad Consortium at UNR.

"I'm thrilled to be back in Nevada," she said. "I'm looking forward to working with the dedicated faculty, staff and friends of WNC."

Steinmann's areas of research and interest include public administration, public finance and government budgeting, public policy analysis, real estate development and finance, quantitative methods and statistics, and economic development (including real estate development and land reuse, small-business development and entrepreneurship, workforce development and job training, economic development marketing and attraction, tech-transfer and technology-based development, and neighborhood and community development).

Nevada Business Connections is a private business recruitment and expansion organization formed in July 2008. NBC has 230 members and serves Northern Nevada with offices in Carson City and Reno.

Carolan Harris named chair

of NNDA's real estate panel

Carolan Harris of Development Dynamics in Douglas County assumes the role of chairwoman for the Northern Nevada Development Authority's regional committee for residential real estate. Harris previously served as vice-chair of NNDA's residential relocation committee.

Harris has offered real estate consulting and brokerage services throughout the region for more than 20 years. Licensed as a broker in both Nevada and California, Harris's experience also spans the globe and brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to NNDA's committees.

Medical offices sold

The 154,000-square-foot Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Plaza in Carson City has been acquired by American Realty Capital Healthcare Trust Inc. of New York City. The trusts says it paid about $29 million for the medical campus near Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare.

Craig Rodrigue of TMCC Culinary School, Jennifer Bushman of Culinary Media Group, Lizet Christiansen of Gear & Grind Cafe, Debbie Branby of The Cheese Board, Barbara Mills of Back of the House, and Alan Hall of Jameson Media Group have been named to the advisory board of Gardnerville-based Tahoe Creamery.

The Carson Area Marketing & PR Network meets at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Business Resource Innovation Center, 108 E. Proctor St.

The October program will include Dennis Noone, editor of the Nevada Appeal, who will speak about how the newsroom responded to and handled the tragic IHOP shooting in Carson City. Bethany Drysdale of the Nevada Commission on Tourism will also discuss how she helped the Carson City Sheriff's Office field calls from international media about the situation.

Cable Connection Awarded LAX Security Cables Contract

Carson City's The Cable Connection has been awarded an order to machine fittings and manufacture cable assemblies to be used in the Bradley West portion of Los Angeles International Airport's Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The new Bradley West 15-gate concourse is specifically designed to accommodate passengers arriving and departing on the giant new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A380 airliners. The assemblies, comprised of a combination of The Cable Connection's Ultra-tec components and custom-machined components, will make up the assemblies being installed overhead along the pathway between plane and customs for security purposes.

"We worked hard to earn this project," said Lou Marino, CEO of the Cable Connection. "It required a combination of some of our existing Ultra-tec product line, our ability to custom machine components per the architect's requirements, and our in-house team to design some completely new fittings. It challenged our creativity and ingenuity. We're proud to have been selected, and to be part of one of the biggest public works projects in Los Angeles' history."

The Cable Connection's Ultra-tec cable railing product line is being specified frequently for use in large projects according to Reed Construction Data, which provides construction project leads throughout North America. In addition to its pre-eminent position with large projects, the company serves multiple market segments right down to retail and DIY.
